Posted by Corona del Sol Track and Field at Mar 24, 2024 2:27PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Practice for all events will begin at 2:50 tomorrow.

Hi all! There is a lot going on this week with Track and Field, so the coaches wanted to touch base.

There are 3 meets this week!

Tuesday- Tri meet with Desert Ridge and Tempe High. AT CORONA

Wednesday- Friendship Olivier, Freshman Sophmore meet AT BROPHY.

Saturday- Becky Mathew Freshman Sophomore meet AT DESERT VISTA.

The Wednesday and Saturday meets are Freshman and Sophomore showcase meets, however we will have limited entries for Varsity athletes who may need to either get or improve a mark. So, a few Varsity athletes may attend those meets. Please see athletic.net for Brophy and DV time schedules.

Here is the time schedule for our Tri meet. It will be a rolling schedule and we will try to start on time as much as possible.

GO AZTECS!

We hope everyone has had a happy and safe spring break. We are reaching out to address a few areas that we want to remind everyone about.

This is the first year of the new spring break schedule and it has meant adjustments for everyone. As early as October we published a schedule on this site highlighting our practice schedule for this break. During the first week of the break, athletes did not have practice Monday or Tuesday and the only athletes that were required to be at practice were those competing in the Friday Red Mountain Rampage. The second week (this week) was required practices for ALL Varsity and Chandler Rotary athletes. Despite the info being online and communicated to athletes we had numerous individuals miss practice this week. Going forward, athletes not at practice will be removed from the invite, and may not be entered in future invitationals either. The exception to this is if there has been a conversation with the coach and an arrangement established.

This next area is absence communication. Athletes missing practice have been asked to communicate this absence with the head coach and their event coach; AND to fill out the absence form online (https://forms.gle/ErnSjHU92pDGL6JG9). Both steps are required. We have 300 athletes and lots of things happening each day having the form filled out provides a backup to verify the coach is informed in case they forget. This was listed as a requirement in the team rules signed by both parents and athletes at the beginning of the year. To date, there have been only 25 absences reported on the above form. With only 2 of them being reported for the spring break period. Please help us by ensuring these steps are followed. Additionally, athletes who are sick or injured are still expected to attend practice and communicate with the coaches. This doesn’t mean telling the coach “they aren’t practicing” instead it means opening a line of communication with the coaches to make the best decision for the athlete together. If there is information the athlete needs they cannot receive it if they are absent. We also believe that if an athlete is unable to attend a practice due to sickness or injury; in any capacity; then they may not be healthy enough to compete in a varsity-level competition. We guarantee in most situations there is something the coach can suggest to the athlete to ensure they are ready for the competition, and allow them to recover as needed. This is expected of all varsity athletes.

The final area of communication we wanted to address is having athletes take the lead in communicating with coaches. We receive a lot of messages from parents about information that can and should come from athletes. Part of our goal is to prepare the athletes for life after high school. Their ability to communicate will impact their lives in so many ways. From job opportunities to friendships and relationships. If they aren’t working on developing this skill we aren’t helping them grow as young adults. We don’t mind receiving messages from parents in case they don’t, but we expect the athletes to communicate with us as well.

Thank you for your help in these areas. We look forward to a great remainder of the season.
